BASIX is an initiative by the NSW Government that requires all new dwellings to be designed and built to achieve a reduction in water consumption and greenhouse gas emissions compared to typical dwellings.
BASIX encourages a reduction through specific design strategies for lighting, heating, cooling, and ventilation.
Provisions to enable the operation of BASIX are contained in the Environmental Planning and Assessment Regulation 2000 (EP&A Regulation) and State Environmental Planning Policy (Building Sustainability Index: BASIX) 2004 (the BASIX SEPP).
